I believe moving it to Dec 31st would be a disaster with Christmas, New Year and Harvest festivities. Bankers and Employers would find it very difficult with vacation management

You are right Madam. Tamil new year also mostly coinsides with Vishu. Pongal day as a new year day has been made politically. People of Tamil nadu still celebrate their New year in April only.

Minor correction with your permission madam- tamil new year is Pongal and kerala new year is Vishu which falls most years on 14th April.
