Did you know that our Indian Railways has vistadome coaches? These are coaches which have a transparent roof and you can have a complete 180 degrees view.

And yes, we actually have a train like that in our very own country. The first of its kind ever, similar to what we see in Europe, especially Switzerland, this runs between Vishakhapatnam and Araku. They are being attached to the Kothavalasa-Kirandul passenger train every day at 7.15am.

These are new generation vistadome coaches, something better than what we have in Europe – the glass roof has electrically controlled opalescence, meaning the roof can be made transparent for the passengers to get a panoramic view of their journeys. In case passengers want a better view, they can head to the special observation lounges. All the seats rotate and have a pushback. Other features like automatic sliding compartment doors, multiple television screens providing infotainment to passengers, wide side door for handicapped, GPS based info system, LED lights; all go one make this a wonderful experience.

The coach is currently running on a trial basis and it is yet to be inaugurated for public use. There are to be a total of four such vistadomes – two on this same Vishakapatnam route and two will be in Kashmir.
