Given the diversity in India, it comes as no surprise to know that middle class Indians love their food. With the variety of food that we have, with each State of India offering new tastes, middle class India does not believe in dieting and even if they do exercise, they do so because then they can eat whatever they like!

This is an interesting but a very true finding of Ipsos, a global market research company. It surveyed around 1,000 urban, upwardly mobile Indians between late August and early September 2018.

And its findings are so, so very true!

Between eating good food and being thin, 77% of Indians would choose the former.

Good eating is of prime importance to India’s middle class

74% of survey respondents are happy with their current weight.

57% admitted having tried cutting calories to shed some pounds.

59% strongly believe that most diet plans ultimately fail.

67% of respondents said the only reason they exercise is so that they can eat what they like.

57% respondents claim they eat organic food.

56%, said they would be fine eating vegetarian or vegan

65% of Indian respondents were opposed to eating food made from genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

48% of Indians expected to cook at home more.

So much so for New Year resolutions on cutting down on eating!
