It is stories like these which make you certain that it is politicians who have succeeded in building a wall between the various communities and Muslims in India; if left alone, people remain open minded.

In Uttarakhand’s Joshimath, which is the last big town before one begins the journey to one of the holiest pilgrimages of a Hindu – to Badrinath; also a stop over for many Sikhs visiting Hemkund sahib.  Here, Eid was celebrated with a new fervor as the local gurudwara offered Muslims space to offer Eid prayers. The Muslims had gathered in a big ground for offering prayers but due to incessant rains, could not do so and without even them asking for aid, the Sikhs stepped in and immediately offered their space in the Gurudwara for prayers. This is communal harmony at its best, isn’t it?

As more and more stories of hatred between people grows, such small gestures warms the heart and restores faith in humanity.
