When there is an opportunity, you come across many creative and ingenuine ideas of selling. Currently the “hot” item on some online websites like e-Bay, Alibaba, is the old Rs.500/1000 note.

You can see such creative ways people are using to sell off their old notes at twice the cost – of course to be paid online or only in new notes.

There is the usual “lucky” and even “holy” notes carrying the 786 digits – the old Rs.500 note is being sold for Rs.6000. Then there are notes being sold at rates dependent on which RBI Governor signed it – the highest value is for notes signed by rockstar Governor, Raghuram Rajan. There is a Rs.500 note sold – which has Gandhiji on his Dandi March and signed by Rajan, sold for Rs.2500.

Then there is another Rs.500 note being sold for Rs.1000, signed by D.Subbarao and having a print shift error. The highest price tag of Rs.50,000 for a Rs.500 note is the one signed by Governor R.N.Malhotra. He was the 17th RBI Governor, serving from 4th Feb 1985 to 22nd December 1990. His sign carries the maximum value because he was the one who introduced the Rs.500 notes.
