Mumbai’s famous dabbawallah’s Roti Bank continues to remain alive and kicking, helping kindle the spirit of humanity in all of us who have turned into machines, running around the  clock.

Roti Bank collects left-over and excess food from the houses and function to provide food to the starving people and the dabbawallah’s provide an excellent service. 300 dabbawalas work overtime after finishing their daily shifts, to pick up the leftover food and distribute it among the needy.

The beneficiaries are those living in the slums, on the roads, poor patients and their families coming from other other states. Dabbawalas get nearly 25-30 calls daily to collect food from various parts of not only Mumbai but also other parts of the country. The Godrej Group has also come forward to help them. They will soon be providing 25 custom-made bicycles fitted with a small refrigerator to the dabbawalas to ease their commute.

If you think you have excess food, the dabbawallah’s can be contacted to collect the food on the numbers provided on the website www.rotibankindia.com.
