Henna does heal!

Sometimes it is wonderful to see how very regular things are used for unusual purposes and the result is beyond expectations. Like henna. We all know that it is used for coloring hair and to decorate the hands with beautiful, intricate patterns.

A new way of using this henna has been found. Innovated in Canada, henna is now used to draw intricate and ornate patterns on bald heads! No, its not a fashion statement; it is a unique way for cancer patients to probably feel less shy about showing their bald heads. This beautiful service is provided by Henna Heals; it started off first as a group of five volunteers but now it has over 150 artists worldwide – USA, Asia, Europe and Australia. Such a lovely way to make these patients feel good after all the harrowing radiation therapies, loss of hair and effects of chemotherapy! The volunteers at Henna Heals use floral patterns, religious symbols and even positive messages to make the women feel better about themselves.

These are known as ‘Henna Crowns’  and given their target audience, they use chemical free, organic henna. The idea is to allow people to associate positive thoughts with an area of  their body which has been physically (and emotionally) scarred. Henna Heals keeps the organization running by offering henna services to the community and using 10% of those proceeds to pay for the henna for those who've lost their hair due to medical conditions.
