Made in China runs into trouble

A simple question – Would you buy a Chinese car because it is the cheapest model in the market?

Majority would vehemently say, “no”. We are using Chinese products in our day-to-day life and when the quality of those trivial items itself is a suspect, how can one risk one’s life? Of course that did not deter us from placing orders for the Mumbai Metro with China and in the first year itself, we remember pictures of it leaking through the roof during rains.

Thus it comes as no surprise to know that trains delivered to Singapore by China’s train maker CSR Sinfang have run into trouble. Major quality issues have come up, with cracks coming in dozens of train cars, where the cars attach to the “bogie” or undercarriage. 26 out of the 35 railcars had defects.

Cities of Chicago and Boston too had placed orders for metro cars, awarding it to CSR as it was the lowest bidder. Wonder what they will do no post this report coming in from Singapore?
