Mumbaikars have a lot to deal with. They already have to deal with bad roads, never ending traffic and basically, poor infrastructure. Now, they have one more thing to be embarrassed about, the city’s new logo!

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has spent Rs.35 lakhs as making charges on a logo titled ‘Majhi Mumbai.’ The logo is designed using colors of orange, black and blue- supposedly, to show how Mumbai has nurtured its residents with maternal affection. One look at the logo leaves you wondering on how this white flower in a pool of orange, in a black circle and a blue dot on top represents the city in any way. If Mumbai is the people’s city, why weren’t people asked to design, vote and actively participate in creating this logo? It was the people of India who designed the new logo of the Indian Rupee. A national level logo has a people’s say but when it comes to designing a logo representing their own city, people are simply supposed to quietly accept it?

Instead of spending so much of the taxpayer’s money on designing a logo disliked by almost everyone in Mumbai, loyals to the city, artists, designers and even non-designers would have come up with a better image denoting their city, for free! The money could also have been saved and the Mumbai logo would have actually been about ‘Mumbai.’ Yes, this will be some more money down the drains!
