No politicians on currency notes, please!

What did you do on 2nd October? True, it was Gandhi Jayanti, a public Holiday but most of us spent it relaxing with our loved ones. Did we really think about Mahatma Gandhi or his values and ideologies even once?

It is ironic that while Gandhiji was a simpleton, we have his face on every Indian currency note printed since 1997. He preached simple living and high thinking, while we use his notes to purchase better and higher standard of living, with no thinking! Now, RBI wants to break this monopoly over the Indian currency, planning to commemorate several more leaders and politicians on currency notes.  While the government is recommending names like Chatrapati Shivaji, Dr.Ambedkar, Indira Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and the likes; the real question one should ask is- Do we really need to glorify personalities on our currency?

Our currency notes can celebrate the beauty and culture of our country, like how Sri Lanka does, promoting natural beauty and imageries in their notes. India has so much more to offer than freedom fighters and politicians, maybe RBI needs to widen their search and opt for debate, allow free things like monuments, dance forms, religions, even Gods and Goddesses for the next generation of coins and notes. But please no politicians or else that will become another new scam! And surely we do not want stare at the face of a tainted scamster every time we buy something.
