When it comes to security, one should never compromise. That’s why, the security business is growing by leaps and bounds in India. And now, looks like bouncers aka the hefty, tall security guards who provide security in discotheques, pubs and also employed for the safety of celebrities are entering an alternate field -  Educational institutes. Yes, colleges, especially in Ahmedabad are increasingly hiring bouncers to “sanitize campuses.”

Already, four colleges in Ahmedabad have deployed bouncers, above the regular private security guards. Why, this additional security in a college? Well, simply to thwart the increasing attacks on young women in campuses, keep the cheap, rowdy clan in control and to avoid clashes between student groups. These bouncers check visitors before they enter the Institution or before meeting officials within the campus. And, they are paid well for this too. Colleges pay them around Rs.800 per day while the regular security guards earn up to Rs.600 per day.

While the hiring of bouncers within an educational institute can be seen in two lights- positively, they care about their student’s safety and negatively, the college campus crowd is bad and hence, needs to be kept in check. Does this mean that the bouncer trend will soon escalate to other cities, Delhi and UP based Institutes, maybe? Time will tell.
