The cute little Quadricycle might soon hit the Indian roads. The government has issued a draft notification to classify the quadricycle as a commercial vehicle under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules.

According to the notification, quadricycle can be used for transporting 3 passengers along with one driver as well as for transporting goods on non-highways. The vehicle should have a fully enclosed body with a steering wheel and not weigh more than 450 kg for passenger transport and 550 kgs, if carrying cargo. A period of 30 days has been kept for submitting suggestions or objections to the notification, followed by the final order.

While the quadricycle is more evolved than the usual autos, many automobile makers oppose the idea that quadricycles is a step back into the yesteryears. Whether the quadricycles hit the Indian roads or not, is a thing of the future but this fiscal end, get ready for RE60, Bajaj Motor’s four-wheeled passenger carrier. And yes, as we are moving ahead in life, there are many things of the past which were much better than what we have today and this adopting some of those ways is not a bad idea.
