Rich, beautiful silk saris and sparkling, elegant gold jewelry always go together. This is what traditional Indian women would wear for any special occasion. Times have changed and what was considered ‘just’ jewelry before now has its value in lakhs.  Nalli which has been selling traditional six yard saris for 84 years now is going to venture into gold retailing.

The idea was initiated by 23 year old Niranth Nalli, the fifth generation of Nalli and this computer engineer will have a capital of Rs.100 crore for making the gold business click.  For Nalli which already has revenue of Rs.550 crore, the objective of venturing outside the garment business is not to make more money. The aim is to make it a one shop store, extending their brand while targeting the same audience. After all, silk saris and gold jewelry always go together.

Initially, Nalli Gold will open their first shop to its loyal, southern customers in T Nagar, Chennai and other Southern cities, before expanding to other regions. A year later, Nalli saris and Gold hopes to rake in over Rs.1000 crore.  One target audience, one major brand and two amazing businesses, now that’s called smart thinking!
