Soothing music for busy Mumbai locals

For any Mumbaikar, maximum time and energy is spent not at work or at home but from commuting from one part of the city to the other. There is no better way to do that than the city’s efficient and reliable local trains but for a city hoisting nearly twenty million people, these trains are perennially crowded, like sardines in a can.

Since Indian Railways has no quick fix or alternate solutions to escape this crowd, there are others who are trying to make this commute less stressful. And what is our biggest stress buster - Music!  If you pass through Churchgate, Bandra and Borivili stations look out for musical artists organized by a non-profit organization - National Streets for Performing Arts (NSPA). Currently, there are fourteen musicians singing Hindustani classical music, Marathi folk song and other genres accompanied by instruments. NSPA pays Rs.1000 to a musician and Rs.1500 to a band per hour.

The aim is noble to provide a financial support to these performers while taking music and art to public places in the city. Meanwhile, it brings a smile to every face too! With music as your companion, there really can be no better way to unwind after a long, stressful day. Let’s hope music spreads to other parts of the city as well.
