IRCTC is where we go to, whether its for booking a friend’s wedding in Satara or a holiday in Goa. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation aka IRCTC has a user-friendly website and now, is making bookings more easier and environmental friendly, by introducing SMS based train tickets.

Now, to cater to the people living in two and three tier cities, who may not have access to Debit, Credit and Net banking facilities; IRCTC is thinking of introducing ‘Pay cash, Book tickets’ method. The tentative is idea that when a person wants to make a booking, he can walk into a pre-registered IRCTC affiliated local, kirana shop, pay cash for his train bookings and the ticket details will be messaged to him on the phone.

With nearly 31 crore tickets booked every year through IRCTC, this idea would definitely find many takers. Of course, the nitty-gritties still need to be worked on how the cancelation policies and refund policies will take place, in case of cash transactions. Whatever it may be, by making it accessible to the aam aadmi, IRCTC is driving in the right direction.
