While Baba Ramdev yesterday announced his foray into solar energy, history was quietly created in Kerala.

India’s largest ever floating solar power plant was inaugurated. Built on the Banasura Sagar reservoir in Wayanad, it is a beautiful sight to behold!

Built at a cost of around Rs 9.25 crore, work first began on this project in March 2016, this floating power plant is on 6,000 square metres of water surface of the reservoir. It has a capacity to generate 500 kWp (kilowatt peak).

Through underwater cables, 7.5 lakh units of power will be annually fed to the KSEB grid, powering up homes in the state. Post this, Kerala is also exploring the option of setting up wind energy farms; its aim is to create all sustainable sources of power within the state.

Wish all of India could think like this; little wonder that it is the only 100% literate state of India
