Sweet music to the ears!

The arrival of festivals for many brings its set of nightmares. Forget revelry, one cannot even have a quiet moment to sit and think. The sound pollution, even on normal days has reached its peak and to make matters worse, we have these loud blaring music played day-in-and-day-out during Ganpati and now Navratri.

Thus it came as such a succor to the ears and heart to know that at least one such garba association in Mumbai took to some innovation. This place in Malad, Mumbai was inspired by Karan Johar’s movie – Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. There is a growing trend of silent disco or silent rave, where people dance to music listened to on wireless headphones. And this garba club follows exactly the same.

You walk into the hall, there is no music blaring but you hear the sounds of dandiya clicking, that’s all. All those dancing have put on earphones provided by the organisers and it has three channels - traditional folk music, Bollywood music and electronic dance.

And apart from complete control of sound pollution, the added bonus – they can dance well past the legal time limit of 10pm as there is no noise, no loud speakers.

Hope this trend catches up with the others and we can then truly enjoy every festival in its right spirit. We only wish there were noiselss and smokeless fire crackers as Diwali approaches.
