DCB Bank gets 'aadhaar' of biometrics

Biometric seems to be the way ahead; at least some of the Indian banks are showing the way.

Using Aadhaar card as its base, which uses biometric authentication, DCB Bank has launched Aadhaar-based authentication at its ATMs to enable cardless financial transactions. The Bank said that with many customers sometimes forgetting their cards or not able to recollect their identification number, the customers faced a lot of inconvenience. And that’s when it decided to use Aadhaar card to access the ATM to make transactions cardless and PIN less.

DCB Bank already had Aadhaar numbers of its majority of customers mapped with their respective account numbers and had recently deployed e-KYC application to facilitate KYC electronically.

This is truly a great step ahead; instead of remembering multiple PINs and keeping so many cards, it would most certainly be a boon to have one card for all and nothing could be more secure than biometrics.

Using Aadhaar card for immigration, like the way Dubai does with its Emirates ID Card should be the way ahead; at least this way we all will start realizing the benefit of holding this Aadhaar card where for most of us, it is just an add-on to the PAN card.
