Looks like declaring bankruptcy for Detroit has worked well! Six months ago, it filed for bankruptcy and this week it is holding a huge auto show, which many call as a precursor to a return to good times.

Some thousands of automotive executives, suppliers and members of the news media have descended into Detroit for the annual North American International Auto Show. Every year that it happens, it gives immense financial returns and this year too, it is expected to do well. It is estimated to contribute $365 million to the local economy in wages and other spending. This year some 17 major auto companies have participated and some 50 new vehicles are to be launched.  Detroit is the headquarters for GM and it is hoping that it would mark this year as a turnaround year.

Well, maybe it is the beginning of a new life for Detroit. The Auto Show is a good start and it is maybe a good idea; such big shows do push up the economy. Little wonder then that Dubai is celebrating after it was awarded the Dubai Expo to be held in 2020.  Will such an idea work for the Indian auto sector?
