Gangajal coming through post?

Amazon on its website says,This is world's best known most sanctified for pooja. It is packaged near the origin of river Ganges at celestial height in deep Himalayas where its natural sanctity and herbal richness are maintained."  Yes, Amazon actually sells ganga water through its portal. You can order it online and Amazon says that the water is sourced from Gomukh, the source from where Ganga originates. There are so many brands of ganga jal, it actually takes you aback that so many found a business opportunity here. It is priced anywhere between Rs.200 to even Rs.1000.

And while Amazon was quick to catch up on this, our very own Indian Post could now deliver ganga jal, right to your doorsteps if the Govt has its way. Cabinet Minister, Ravi Shanka Prasad said this move is being mooted to make full use of the vast postal network to transport the holy water across the length and breadth of the country – to increase the relevance of Indian Post and give a boost to its revenue by creating this new vertical. There also plans to have kiosks within post offices that will be selling the Gangajal.

Maybe it’s a great new idea but the biggest problem is trust – how can we trust that the water being delivered is indeed Gangajal and not simple tap water? Ditto holds true for those on sale on Amazon. We Indians are jugaad masters and some amongst us do not think twice before duping the gullible. So to order this Gangajal and think that its pure will be a matter or faith – just as we think that all our sins will be washed away by a taking a dip in the Ganges. And it is this faith which will help some people make a lot of money.
