The floods of Chennai have propelled the NDRF into action. This is the same organization which was there rescuing people during the Uttarakhand floods and then during the Jammu & Kashmir floods. They were also there when the Nepal earthquake struck.

And how it is going to help? It is going to put dogs into action! The NDRF is currently training 162 dogs. These dogs will be used to help its personnel in rescuing people trapped under debris in the aftermath of natural calamities like earthquake. This is no ordinary task – these dogs will be trained to undertake specialised Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) tasks under which the NDRF teams have to sift through mounds of rubble to look for life trapped beneath.

These dogs also have to undergo a strict regime, which includes drills and field exercises. They are trained to sniff life, if any, in a collapsed concrete structure. This is the first time that dogs for disaster response are being trained on such a large scale indigenously.

Dogs have always been the companion of man and it is now a partner is such crucial tasks, helping save lives. So if someone says, you are dog, feel proud because it is more loyal and faithful than any human being!
