Making a will is always a sticky subject at home, for almost everyone. It highlights mortality and in a way, a person, decides, what after him. All his/her life is spent in material pursuits and while making a will, it could be a moment of great self realization. Earlier and most even today, use the good old “family” lawyer and bring in a trusted good friend as a witness to the will.

But in the age of everything going digital, it does not come as a surprise to see that even a will can now be made online. And as Indians, especially the middle level executives warm up to the idea of making a will online,  there is now a virtual proliferation of websites. Most popular amongst all are WillJini, MyWill, WillSecure, EzeeWill, eWill and all are backed by legal service firms.

So how it works is that once you have registered to make a will, within two months, you have to feed in all the data, after which a draft document will be framed and delivered online. Two witnesses and you have to sign on all the pages in presence of both witnesses, let both the witnesses also sign on all pages. This document is your Legal Will. This online will writing costs around Rs.5000, which would be the fees that you would anyway pay to your lawyer.

In this age of apps and everything digital, why not a digital will? Maybe a first in your family?
