Royal treatment for a murderer 'King'
Yes, this can happen only in India. A prince, a real-life prince of the Dewas royal family has been out on the run for three months now. He had killed a man over land dispute. His 11 accomplices were arrested but the prince, Vikram Singh was declared absconder. And even before the “prince” could be arrested, his lawyer asked for an anticipatory bail; which the prosecutor fought against, saying anticipatory bail is not given to murder accused. But as money always speaks louder than justice, the prince got anticipatory bail and that too on humanitarian cause.
What was the cause? He had to be crowed the King as his father, the Maharaja was on deathbed. His lawyer argued, “Because he belongs to the royal family, the rajyarohan and the funeral will not take place without the yuvaraj. Since a non-bailable offence has been registered against him, he is likely to be arrested but because he belongs to the raj gharana, his reputation will be sullied, if he is accompanied by the police to the funeral.”
So on 17th June, Vikram Singh was given bail so that he could be crowned king. On 19th June, his ailing father, Tukoji Rao Puar, a former BJP minister and ‘maharaja’ of the erstwhile Dewas royal family died. And Vikram Singh’s coronation was held on 20th June. We still have "Rajyarohan"! What is "Rajyarohan" on humanitarian grounds? Kings! We thought India is a Republic!
The bail period gets over on 1st July; wonder whether the “King” will be arrested or will be again seek anticipatory bail till the end of trial. Well, a King does get royal treatment, even in a democracy, even when he has committed a murder.
