There was a time when the Swiss watch makers, renowned world over for their precision and workmanship, refused to toe the line and start making smart watches. They preferred to retain their traditional outlook and felt that the world could change but they most certainly did not need to keep with the change. They felt the world will come back to its traditional watches.

Looks like nothing like that is going to happen and the Swiss watchmakers have been made eat humble pie. Reeling under pressure of subdued demand the need to innovate and keep up with changing times, they have finally relented – Swatch will be the first Swiss company to come out with a luxury smartwatch. To compete head-on with Apple Watch, a JV between between Silicon Valley wearable-technology company Fullpower Technologies and Union Horlogère Holding, which owns Swiss watchmakers Frederique Constant and Alpina, makes these new smartwatches. This new company, known as Manufacture Modules Technologies (MMT) will launch the first smartwatch before end of 2015, with 10 models, to be sold under the banner of Swiss Horological Smartwatches.  Watches will go on sale in June, and prices will start at $995.

Well, Apple Watch is expected to change the way we use watches ; in that context lets see how the Swiss perform.
