The 'circle' of life

Have you ever looked carefully at the various brand logos around you? Carefully? A random look at even some 15-20 brands in your home will reveal one very interesting fact – geometric patterns are most commonly used and of this, circles are the most used.

Consider this. Almost all German cars use circles in their logos. Volkswagen features the letters of the alphabet V and W inside a circle. Mercedes has its three-pointed star within a circle. BMW has a circle as its logo. And Audi has not just one circle, but four rings that represent the union of four manufacturers of the Auto Union of Germany. By the way, even the Olympics logo comprises of five circles.

Then look at Vodafone – it has a bright red circular logo. AT&T has a globe as its logo, with blue circles running around. China Mobile too  has a round symbol and BSNL has a circular logo, with arrows flying around the circle.

In consumer goods too circle is most used – LG has its red logo with a dot, Nivea has a round blue, Starbucks has a green round logo, even Pepsi has a round red-and-white-and-blue logo.. Dell, HP, Whatsapp, Wikipedia, Dettol, Firefox, Chrome and Ola – all use circles.

Why are circles used? Because the symbol conveys positive emotions, signals union , stability and trust. More importantly, it conveys the circle of life. 25 of the world’s top 100 brands have circles in their logos.

No wonder the world goes round and round in circles!
