Astra Microwave Products is currently the top gainer on the BSE, rising 12.04% to Rs. 1,933. The stock gained Rs. 207.65 from its previous close of Rs. 1,725.35 and hit a fresh 52-week high of Rs. 1,960, as investors reacted to the company securing a large Rs. 2,205.23 crore order from Hindustan Aeronautics. Market depth showed buy quantity of 19,460 against sell quantity of 17,150, indicating stronger buying interest on the counter.

Trigger

  • Astra Microwave received an order from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.
  • Order is from a domestic entity under the Ministry of Defence.
  • The contract is for procurement of 122 AAAU units and 121 interface frames for Uttam Radar.
  • Order value is Rs. 2,205.23 crore, inclusive of all applicable taxes and GST.
  • Contract is to be executed within five years.
  • Order does not fall under related-party transactions.
  • Stock hit a fresh 52-week high of Rs. 1,960.
  • Company belongs to the aerospace and defence segment.

The HAL linkage is important. HAL is a key defence manufacturing PSU, and an order for Uttam Radar components places Astra Microwave directly within India’s defence indigenisation and aerospace electronics supply chain. Investors are reading this as a strong endorsement of the company’s technical capabilities and its role in strategic defence programmes.

The five-year execution period also gives visibility rather than a one-quarter boost. This means the revenue will be recognised over time, but the order strengthens the company’s order book and improves confidence in future earnings. For defence companies, order-book expansion is often the most important trigger because execution cycles are long and revenue visibility matters.

However, the stock already trades at expensive valuations, with PE above 50 for the previous four trailing quarters. That means the market is pricing in strong order execution and sustained defence-sector momentum. Any delay in execution, margin pressure or working-capital build-up can lead to volatility.
