Dixon Tech up in green

Dixon Technologies is in focus today after the government approved its joint venture with Vivo Mobile India, clearing the way for both companies to set up a smartphone manufacturing company in India. The stock opened firm and touched an intraday high of Rs. 14,026.70 before trading at Rs. 13,576.05, up 0.64%.

Trigger

  • Dixon Technologies received government approval for its joint venture with Vivo Mobile India.
  • The approval was issued by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
  • The approval allows incorporation of the JV company and subscription of shares by Vivo Mobile India.
  • Dixon had entered into a term sheet with Vivo in 2024 to undertake OEM manufacturing of electronic devices, including smartphones.
  • Dixon has executed a shareholders’ agreement with Vivo to govern management, operations and shareholder rights in the JV.
  • The joint venture will be owned 51% by Dixon Technologies and 49% by Vivo Mobile India.
  • Vivo has around 23% market share in smartphones, and Dixon expects nearly 67% of its volumes to come to the JV.

The market is reacting positively because the approval removes a key regulatory overhang on Dixon. The Vivo JV had been in the works since 2024, and the government clearance now gives investors confidence that the partnership can move from announcement to execution.

The direct benefit for Dixon is scale. Vivo is one of the largest smartphone brands in India, and a manufacturing partnership with such a large player can materially increase Dixon’s smartphone volumes. If incremental volumes begin from Q3FY27 as expected, it can improve revenue visibility for the company’s mobile manufacturing business.

However, the stock already trades at rich valuations, with consolidated PE at around 50 times and price-to-book close to 49 times. This means the market is pricing in strong execution and sustained volume growth. Any delay in ramp-up, margin pressure or weaker smartphone demand can lead to volatility.
