Lately, a lot of supermarkets across the globe have been allotting more space to the humble yogurt. With ample varieties now available in the market, consisting of national as well as international brands, yogurt is becoming an increasingly essential part of everyone’s palate. In USA alone, the market for yogurt is worth $ 7 billion.

While in India, yogurt has always been an essential ingredient in our food, recopies, drinks and now, even juices, dips and desserts; it is the latest obsession of USA, the new fad to curtail obesity. But Euromonitor International forecasts a slower growth rate of 5.9% in the next five years.  Currently, Yoplait rules the Western market followed by Chobani and Danone. Danone and Yoplait have also come up with Greek style dips and flavorings to satisfy American’s new-found love of Greek yogurt.

Now, PepsiCo Inc is expanding its portfolio by taking its Muller yogurt brand to a wider reach. The company has partnered with Germany’s Theo Muller Group and opened a plant in New York for building a loyal US following.  India, however, still has to wait for PepsiCo’s yogurt to satisfy the cravings.
