MARKET CRASHES - LOOK BEYOND THE CURRENT PANIC SELLING

Whooah! The markets are crashing as though there is no floor. The most preferred clour today seems to be red - everything is painted in red. Right from Index, rupee, metals, oil; everything is painted in a rich shade of blood red. Even the moods are red. There is virtually a herd panic mentality; everybody wants to rush out at the same time.

WILL THE BSE EVER GET LISTED?

Arun Jaitley, our FM has just returned from a 10-day trip to USA; his objective - to garner more FDI for the country. While he has been waxing eloquent about how one can make investments in India; he urged US investors to look at India as a destination where investments can now be committed without delay. Really? Well, that reality apart, what must have really come as totally unexpected and unexpected would have been the question on BSE listing. While telling investors that things in India now move very fast, he was probably put in a tight corner over the almost decade long delay in getting the premier stock exchange of India, Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) listed.

TO CATCH A FALLING KNIFE WITH A RAZOR'S EDGE...

One need not be a stock market specialist to say that bears seem to holding the markets in a tight grip. Moods remain despondent with no major positive trigger at sight. Yet, even when there is a sense of hopelessness on Dalal Street, many are on the prowl, looking for bargains. Call them scavengers or whatever, they buy every time there is a carnage; they scavenge through the rubble, looking for a good bargain.

BUDGET FY14 - THE GAINERS AND LOSERS

On the whole the Budget was a lot of talk but there does not seem to be the right stride in the walk to meet this talk. The Finance Minister on one hand said that the FY14 plan expenditure is to be raised by 30% but at the same time, he says that fiscal deficit for FY14 will come down to 4.8% from the current year estimate of 5.2%. How does this math add up? There is a massive jump in social schemes, so one wonders how the fiscal deficit

BSE - ENLISTED TO GET LISTED

And what we hear is that BSE will be opting for the Offer for sale (OFS) route to get itself listed. This is more cost effective than the IPO route wherein shares to the public are sold through an auction on a stock exchange during market hours. If the valuation of BSE comes around

MCX-SX - TO CRACKLE AND FIRE THIS DIWALI

Earlier when we said, "stock exchange" it meant only one thing - the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) but then arrived the new kid - National Stock Exchange (NSE) and soon, Over the Counter Exchange or OTC. MARKETS -LIKE A 'WAITING ROOM' TILL END OF NEXT WEEK

The market is today like a student waiting for the results - with various results expected to come, in a staggered way, the student naturally would like to wait before all results are out and then decide on the course of action. Thus spurts of action and bigger bouts of inaction
