The Govt. has allowed Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to hike petrol prices by Rs. 7.50 per litre, effective Thursday midnight. A lot has been written and talked about on the same. The pain to the 'aam aadmi', the 'inflationary' rule of the UPA, utter disgust and frustration; it is all a part of the same story. But we are seeing only side of the coin, the side to which we belong. What about the other side?

This is what Rata Tata said in his Twitter account. It is very rare that Ratan Tata puts out anything controversial in the public domain. And these strong words do come as a rude shock. But why shock when it is easy to understand his frustration. The Tata's have stakes in two airlines in India - AirAsia and Vistara. Both are currently not allowed to fly abroad.

The Civil Aviation Ministry released the new Draft Policy today. Needless to say, the policy reads well, making every Indian feel so proud. It actually mesmerizes one into thinking that the Govt is thinking so much good for us, even if it comes at the cost of the Govt and companies. The new Draft policy is exactly what we all want in our country but the moot question is whether these Utopian policies are workable, will they ever be implemented?

The current brouhaha over the 5/20 rule for the Indian aviation has rekindled all these pent up emotions for Air India. In fact the rule itself was made to protect Air India - that was the sole purpose of the rule. While on the other hand, there are others who say that rule was promulgated by ex-aviation minister of UPA raaj, Mr.Praful Patel. It is said that he brought in this 5/20 rule to protect Jet Airways and Kingfisher.

Q2FY15 - GIVES RBI MORE BREATHING SPACE

The Q2FY15 GDP numbers was expected to be mostly around 5% or some even less than 5%, at around 4.9%. So when the number came in at 5.3%, it was touted "much better than expected!" Though sequentially, the number has actually gone down. The big drag this time has been manufacturing which came just about managed to hold on to above 1% mark at a measly 0.1% - a huge drop down from 3.5% in Q1.

After nine quarters or two years and a quarter, India's GDP for current Q1FY15 came in much higher than expected at 5.7%, which is 100 bps higher than 4.7% recorded in previous Q1. India Inc could not have welcomed Lord Ganesha with a bigger bang! The festive cheer only got better and lights seem to be shining brighter!
