Battle for superlatives

Dubai has always wanted a ‘tall image’ for itself, wanting the world’s biggest and tallest buildings, be it residential or commercial buildings, hotels or monuments. But now, its time for Dubai to move aside as China has once again usurped the title of “largest building” from Dubai.

This is world’s largest and not tallest and China opened last week, the gigantic New Century Global Center in the Chengdu city of Southwestern China. It has a mind boggling19 million square feet of floor space. This vast, wavy rectangular box of glass and steel houses ships, offices and an artificial ocean beach with a huge LED screen for video sunsets.

Earlier, Dubai airport held this record having nearly a similar floor space but now China has beaten them. Can we hear the construction hums of a bigger structure being built in Dubai or UAE?
