Senior citizens usually like to lead a monotonous and peaceful life. They like to eat healthy meals, go for evening walks and live a stress free existence.  But eighty-year old Japanese man, Yuichiro Miura is not like other senior citizens.

On 23rd May at noon Japan time, this man broke all boundaries and records becoming the oldest man to have reached the summit of Mount Everest. Till now, this record belonged to a 76 year old Tibetan man but now this Japanese adventure junkie proudly holds the record.  And, this record comes with a hefty price tag, as well.  The Nepalese Government charges $25,000 per person and that does not include the camp fees, oxygen bottles, guides and the zillion other things you require to conquer the world’s tallest peak.

Nepal makes about $3 million each year from Everest permits alone. That somehow sums it all , Mt. Everest is no longer conquered simply by mountain lovers. In these years, sadly, reaching the top of Everest has become a ‘brag matter’ garnering media attention and limelight. Ideally, the Nepali Govt should ration the number of people allowed to try and climb Mt. Everest to preserve its sacredness, beauty and awe that people from across the world travel for.
