The Indian Railways seems to have made full use of the lockdown in the country. Turning it into an opportunity, it managed to complete over 200 maintenance work, all critical, which had been pending for years and were often the reason for many bottlenecks.

With railway tracks bereft of trains, the Railways got all work done - yard remodelling, repair and re-girdering of old bridges, doubling and electrification of rails and renewal of scissor crossovers. The Railway ministry called it, “once in a lifetime opportunity.”

The maintenance ranged from the rebuilding of 82 bridges, building 48 limited height road under bridges to replace level crossing gates, construction or strengthening of 16-foot overbridges, dismantling of 14 old foot overbridges (FOBs), launching of 7 road overbridges, 5-yard remodelling, commissioning of doubling of one project and 26 other projects.

Now this is what we very constructive use of the lockdown!
