Indian post offices have always been dull, dingy and lifeless.  And it’s effect seems to have rubbed off on its employees, who constantly seem irritated and demotivated. Can we really blame them? Little wonder then that we rarely hear of any youth aspiring to work in the post office! But looks like things are going to change here too.

Indian Post has spent Rs.314 crores, till date, renovating 2515 post offices in the country.  There is a plan to renovate 2500 more post offices, which includes 20% of offices in rural areas.  The objective is to connect with the younger generation. With more space for customers and staff, single window counters and modernized mail sorting counters- your dingy neighborhood post office will now see a lot of color and modern facilities.

Besides this, the Post Office will soon launch their ATM’s and online booking of speed post and parcel. There are over 154,822 post offices in the country; the largest network in the world and while the makeover will take a while to reach them all- its one step at a time.
