It is festive time in India again. That can be seen not just in the festive atmosphere everywhere but also in the sudden rush in cracker shops and the sweet shops. But this time, these overpriced mithaiwallas have a new and unexpected competitor, Dunkin’ Donuts!

They are the world’s largest donuts chain and have only five shops in India but these donut makers are taking efforts to suit the Indian palette. This Diwali, they will roll out variants of doughnuts like coconut rasgulla, petal gulab jamun and mottichoor ladoo. With this, they hope to not just make Donuts popular in India but win us over with their extensive localization drive too. Amongst these donuts, the most popular ones will find a permanent place in the menu.

Localization is a key factor for multinationals operating in India, with everyone from McDonald’s to Kellogg’s to PepsiCo land now Dunkin’ Donuts customizing to suit to the wide eating out Indian market. If you are in a mood of eating something new, this time do it videshi style!
