Indian Railways are notoriously known for their delay in train arrival and departures. While that may or may not change in the near future, the good thing is you may soon get alerts on when the trains are delayed or cancelled.
The Railways plans to provide personalized services that can match airline companies- including, wake up call, SMS alerts, train arrival and departure notifications, delay alerts, cancellation alerts. In collaboration with RailYatri and Centre of Railway Information Systems, a new app is being developed to provide real time information on the position of trains and predictions of their expected arrival in different stations.
While this app will take a few months to develop, this will surely change the way the old-school Railways is being perceived. This on the eve of its 160th year of existence, keeping pace with changing times for this old granddad is no mean feat. We now only hope that the alarms ring on time and SMS alerts come before the train leaves or arrives at the destination.
