Well, the Finance Ministry is inviting applications for the right person to become the SEBI chief. The current hairman U K Sinha, whose extended term ends on March 1, 2017.  So what are the qualifications as prescribed by the Finance Ministry?

1: The Chairman would be appointed for a 5-year period or up to the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.

2: He would be eligible for re-appointment.

3: The deadline is 21st October 2016, apply before this date to be considered!

4: Sebi Chairman will get consolidated pay package of Rs 4.5 lakh per month.

5: The appointment will be made by the central government on recommendation of the Financial Sector Regulatory Appointments Search Committee (FSRASC).

6: Keeping in view the role and importance of Sebi as a regulator, it is desirable that persons with high integrity, eminence and reputation preferably with more than 25 years of professional experience and in the age group of 50 to 60 years may apply.

7: Interested candidates can apply to the Department of Economic Affairs in the Finance Ministry. 

Last year too, the Govt had invited applications to fill in Sinha’s place and it had received some 50 applications. The Ministry shortlisted 7 but no one was appointed and Sinha was given an extension.

Let’s see what happens this time around.
