New office, new thoughts

The employees of Johnson & Johnson (J&J) must be a very happy lot today, working from their swanky new building and work place in Jogeshwari, Mumbai. The shift from its 50-year old place in Tardeo might have caused some pain but today, with their commute time being cut by almost half and an open atmosphere, surely they must be happy with the change.

This is a modern office, with floors from 3 to 5, more space than its old office and with an inhouse crèche and gym, it’s a template for other old offices. The senior management might be disgruntled as 90% of the cabins have been done away with; only three leadership teams have cabins. The middle and senior management sits at open desks as younger employees prefer ‘open door’ policy, doing away with cabin culture.

Gym and crèche facility apart, there is a large cafeteria, with open seating, airport style chairs and tables near windows. There are also bean bags near workstations and at a glance, it looks like a global office and not something one would find in the crowded city of Mumbai. Way to go!
