Say cheers!

While the friction between India and Pakistan is apparent even after its partition several decades ago, Pakistan is taking a step towards peace by saying cheers through its beer.

Pakistani beverage company Murree Brewery has given a franchise to a Bangalore based entrepreneur to sell their brand in the Indian market. Murree Brewery produces beer, single malt whisky, scotch whisky, vodka and brandy. The company was established in Ghora Galli, a town in Galiyat area of Northern Pakistan in 1860 and has been successfully running since then.

Currently, Murree Brewery sells its alcoholic drinks only in five star hotels as under Pakistani law, Muslims are prohibited from consuming alcoholic drinks. The beer will hit the Indian market soon and would hope that alcohol would do what nothing else could, strengthen trading ties between India and Pakistan. Aman ki aasha over jaam?
