The 'Indian' doughnuts

The Americans have learnt it well – they have realized that they have an obese population and they cannot get them to shed the fat. So what do they do – they feed the very same fatty food across the world and make the world population fat so that no one remembers what being healthy or thin means.

India’s population, if we glance around today, is indeed growing fat. The serpentine queues at McDonalds and pizza joints are more than enough proof of the way in which our generation is today ‘growing’. The latest American addition, another ‘fat’ food is doughnut. The Americans have learnt the art of localizing everything so well  and they have extended it to doughnuts too. The Americans are ruing that India today has some many exotic flavors of their own food – Dunkin’Donuts first released a Mango donut and then for Diwali had motichoor ladoo donut and the gulab jamun donut.  There is also a Kesar Badam doughnut, which is filled with saffron cream and topped with blanched almonds and pistachios. The Soan Papdi doughnut is a hit and so is guava and chili topped white chocolate doughnut.

Compared to these unique flavors what is available in USA is so bland and lackluster and they are pretty miffed. Some are happy that their doughnuts have not become ‘corrupt’ and savour the American taste. But it would surely be nice for the scores of Indians to have this ‘Indian’ choice in American food while living there. As someone said, "Doughnuts are proof that the Lord likes us...and wants us to be jelly-filled." If only there was some healthier option…..
