When the going gets tough

People are rushing out – this entire staying home for almost 6 months is taking a toll and everyone wants to do outdoor. Home-cooked food had its charm in the early days but now its become a case of too much of a good thing. With eating out at restaurants looking like a distant dream, everyone  seems to be thinking out-of-the-box, trying to cope with the situation while coming up with creative solutions.

Kanpur based, Status Hospitality Group has turned two of its unused banquet lawns, lush with green grass into drive-in restaurants. Known as Drive & Dine, diners, as the name suggests, can drive-into the lawn in their car and order food in their car itself or get seated on picnic tables and chairs. At a time, the lawn can accommodate 10 cars.

A golf cart brings the food you’ve ordered via an app using a QR code. On the menu are Italian dishes, from pasta to woodfired pizzas, Indian street food like kathi rolls and Chinese delicacies.

The space is sanitised with electrostatic guns, and diners are handed a special case to place their face masks when they are not using it. The crockery and cutlery are stored in a UV sterilisation chamber.

Last week, they hosted a drive-in movie night. Later this month they hope to screen the IPL.

Indeed, when the going gets tough, the tough get going!
