Paras Defence drops 5%
Paras Defence and Space Technologies is among the top losers on the BSE today, falling 5.31% to Rs. 1,259, down Rs. 70.55 from its previous close of Rs. 1,329.55. The stock opened at Rs. 1,341.15, touched an intraday high of Rs. 1,342.25, and slipped to Rs. 1,256.70. Market capitalisation stood at Rs. 10,145.94 crore. Market depth showed sell quantity of 20,308 shares against buy quantity of 13,593 shares, indicating selling pressure. The decline follows the company's Q2 FY27 results announced yesterday.
Trigger
- Q2 FY27 consolidated revenue rose 42.9% YoY and 18.1% QoQ to Rs. 151.12 crore.
- Operating profit increased nearly 50% YoY to Rs. 44.5 crore, with operating margin improving to 29.5%.
- Net profit attributable to shareholders grew 46.8% YoY and 42.8% QoQ to Rs. 30.30 crore.
- Optics and Optronic Systems revenue surged 94.2% YoY to Rs. 74.65 crore.
- Defence Engineering revenue grew around 13.7% YoY to Rs. 76.47 crore, but its segment profit declined approximately 59% YoY.
- H1 FY27 consolidated revenue rose 40.3% YoY to Rs. 279.03 crore.
The important point is that the results are strong overall, but performance across the two business segments is uneven. Optics and Optronic Systems nearly doubled its revenue, with segment profit rising from Rs. 18.65 crore to Rs. 45.01 crore. However, Defence Engineering's segment profit fell from Rs. 16.86 crore to just Rs. 6.88 crore, despite higher revenue. This sharp deterioration in profitability in one of its core divisions could be weighing on sentiment.
Profit booking is another likely explanation. The stock had gained approximately 11% over the preceding five trading sessions and nearly doubled during 2026, making it vulnerable to selling after the earnings announcement. Yesterday's positive reaction to the results may also have encouraged short-term investors to book gains. The selling therefore appears more consistent with stretched expectations and uneven segment profitability than with weakness in consolidated earnings.
At a consolidated PE of 94.80 times and price-to-book of 21.24 times, considerable future growth is already reflected in the share price.
