Sterlite Industries is currently the top loser on the BSE, down 3.4% at Rs.90.50 very close to its 52-week low at Rs.88.60. Its intra day low is at Rs.89.15.

The stock is down after the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board yesterday ordered closure of the company’s copper smelter unit on alleged noxious gas leakage. The gas leak caused mild suffocation, sore throat and eye irritation to several people in the locality who suspected that it originated from Sterlite. The company has however claimed that its plant was safe and it had followed the highest safety norms.
