THE DANGEROUS PURSUIT OF PENNY STOCKS

Sometimes, it is difficult to understand the psyche of the investor. In a bull market, when the markets are booming and almost all stocks have run much ahead of valuation, hunting for penny stocks comes naturally, or should we say, is any hunters instinct. But in a bear market, when blue chips are better priced and hold promise of bigger gains when times improve, why then this pursuit for penny stocks?

PENNY STOCKS - GIVE NO THOUGHT!

MAHARATNAS & NAVRATNAS - PRECIOUS TO PRECARIOUS

Thus it brings us to the question whether granting any status, even with the highest status of Maharatna, can these PSUs truly get the autonomy which they are promised of or does this remain merely on paper? Govt interference in PSU companies, especially when it comes to contracts and even recruitments is well known. There is no doubt that political leaders, when elected to the Board of these companies, fool themselves

COMATOSE IPO MARKET - WHO KILLED THIS GOLDEN GOOSE?

Then yesterday America saw the IPO of the popular "Candy Crush Saga' videogame flopping very badly. It priced its much anticipated public offering at $22.50, in the middle of its expected range. the maker of this game, King Digital, which debuted yesterday, fell almost 16% and closed at $19. Analysts there called this disastrous debut as a result of 'extremely fast money' which is basically investors making a fast exit on the listing day itself. This,

MAHARATNA AND NAVRATNA - ARE THEY REALLY PRECIOUS?

Just as Emperor Akbar had accorded a status of Navratna to nine of his most prized and able ministers, the Indian Govt has accorded the same status, of being a priceless Navratna to some Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and are leaders in their own right in the Indian corporate world.

PSUs – MANY OF THEM HEADLESS CHICKENS!

An enterprise running without a leader is like a household without a karta – everything goes haywire and that is what percolates down to the lowest level and thus the performance. And then it is said that PSUs are loss-making and are inefficient. What else will they be if this is the lackadaisical attitude to fill up the most important post?
