CERC - DOES A "BATTI GUL" FOR POWER COMPANIES
about 13 years ago
Well, looks like markets did have a good read and are not happy with what it read. Power stocks continue to remain the big losers of the day, lead by NTPC, which will be impacted the most (Read 'What's Buzzing' column for NTPC specific details). What also comes forth is that power tariffs are set to come down - good news for us, naturally, not good for the power companies. It also aims to increase the onus of improving efficiency

But with a 30% target, at least we can meet part of it and that itself will be a beginning.

THE STORY OF ARGENTINA - LESSONS FOR INDIA?
We in India are worried about the fiefdom of the Govt when it comes to PSUs, particularly Coal India. But the recent development in Argentina gives some succor; after all it is human nature to feel good when others also suffer along with us. about 14 years ago
CCI believes there is cartelization in increasing and decreasing prices of a deregulated commodity such as petrol by the 3 state OMCs. If the OMCs are losing money on every litre of petrol they sell, how can the alleged cartelization stand to fleece the consumers and benefit the companies? Under-recovery, in no language, stands for 'gains'!

Last fiscal Q3FY11 held more promise and more than sustainability, it was about good growth. But this fiscal, Q3, especially after a not-so-good Q2 and interest regime and falling rupee, does not paint an overall good picture. A trim to the topline growth and surely a hair cut for the bottomline growth seems inevitable...
