DELISTING - THE NEW BUZZ WORD ON DALAL STREET

The markets are lackluster and the moods are despondent. Stocks move only to slip back down. But even in this market, there are a few breed of stocks, which seem to defy even the sense of gravity. And that special breed of stocks is the ones which are delisting or are 'potential' delisting candidates.

THE DELISTING THEME - WHAT TO DO?

he buzz word on Dalal Street for some time now has been delisting. But some companies touted to be hundred percent delisting candidates have since then announced that they had no plans for delisting and promoters were paring their stake to meet the 75% requirement. Disa India, Honeywell Automation, Blue Dart Express are just a few of them which over the last fortnight dashed hopes of traders who were expecting to make a killing on the delisting theme. T

JUNE IIP – A PLEASANT SURPRISE FOR THE WEEKEND; THAT’S ALL!

June IIP came as a pleasant surprise at 7% v/s 3.2% in May, beating most estimates. This growth was the highest in the last four months. This growth was led by manufacturing, mining and electricity. The big question mark is whether this is sustainable.

IIP, CPI AND TCS... ALL DISAPPOINT

It was a bad set of numbers - both IIP for November as well as CPI for December. And then to top it all off, TCS announced its Q3FY16 numbers and they were much, much below analyst expectations. Thank god these numbers came in after market closure or else the already lackluster market, with a strong inclination towards a fall

FINALLY SOME GOOD NEWS ON IIP AND CPI FRONT!

After the depressing markets and the even more disturbing happenings in the Parliament, the CPI and IIP data which came in later in the evening were worth cheering. At last some good news! First July CPI. Food inflation came in at 2.15% v/s 5.48% (MoM) and that alone helped the overall CPI come at down at 3.78% v/s 5.4% (MoM).

OCT IIP - DISAPPOINTING AND DISCOURAGING

But the contraction of 1.8% in October was much more disappointing, much more than what most analysts had expected. Manufacturing accounts for 76% of the IIP and its contraction of 2% is a cause for worry. Electricity falling MoM from 12.9% to 1.3% was also shocking. And while expecting festive season

JULY IIP - FLASH IN THE PAN?

Manufacturing which has a 80% weightage in the IIP number did well with a growth of 3% but Capital Goods, showing a growth of 15.6% v/s degrowth of 6.6% in June was too volatile and cannot really be taken as an indicator of any improvement. Most analysts do not take into consideration capital goods at all as it simply

PUBLIC SHAREHOLDING NORM - HOPEFULLY, NO EXTENSION OF DEADLINE

Every other day, one stock or the other is up precisely on this rumour - delisting. The deadline for bringing down promoters holding to 75% or less expires on 30th June 2013, three years after it was mooted. That for the public sector, where public float should be at least 10%, expires on 31st August 2013.

DELISTING - NOT THE BEST THEME TO PLAY ON

A lot of market punters are pretty miffed because Kennametal let them down so badly. Most had taken positions in the stock, hoping that the company will announce a delisting price which would be at a hefty premium over the market price. And then the company went ahead and announced that it will not delist; the US parent company has instead, taken the cheaper route - to pare its stake from the current 88.16% to 75%. Marketmen are crying foul,
